Nassau’s Only Female Colorectal Surgeon
GREAT NECK — When the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System opened the doors of its new Center for Colon and Rectal Diseases last winter, it also introduced Luz Angel, MD, Nassau County’s first and only female colorectal surgeon.
“With Dr. Angel on our team, we offer the expertise, acumen and experience that is essential to developing and implementing the most effective approaches to treating diseases of the colon and rectum,” said John Procaccino, MD, the health system’s chief of colon and rectal surgery. “In her short time here, Dr. Angel is already forging an outstanding reputation and standard for quality and compassionate care.”
Dr. Angel’s surgical and clinical skills were honed through rigorous and intensive training and education. She did her fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in Manhattan and completed residency training in general surgery with Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. She earned her doctorate in medicine from New York University School of Medicine; North Shore University Hospital is Long Island’s academic campus for NYU.
Active in research, Dr. Angel has been published in variety of professional journals, including: International Surgery, American Journal of Surgery and Oncology Research, co-authoring five published articles and three published abstracts.
